A woman in Trenton NJ was savagely attacked by a pit bull while walking on a city street.

The vicious dog attack occurred around 8:00 p.m. on Hamilton Avenue in Trenton, New Jersey. The site of the attack was near Chambers Street and just across the street from the Trenton Fire Department’s Engine Co. 7 fire station. The victim, a 25-year-old local resident, was walking on the sidewalk when she was suddenly approached by a pit bull that got free from its leash. The dog reportedly attacked the victim, causing severe physical injuries.

While the animal attack went down, the dog’s owner allegedly ran away. According to witnesses at the scene, the owner fled the area as soon as he realized that Trenton NJ police officers were on their way.

When Trenton NJ police arrived at the scene, they found the victim still being attacked by the dog. Police officers with the Trenton Police K-9 Unit and Trenton firefighters were able to intervene in the dog attack subdue the animal. During the ensuing struggle, the dog died.

Meanwhile, the victim was briefly treated at the scene of the dog attack before being rushed to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton, NJ. According to officials, the victim sustained significant injuries that included lacerations. It is expected that she will require extensive plastic surgery.

Detectives with the Trenton Police Department are actively investigating the attack. Assuming that law enforcement is able to determine the identity of the dog’s owner, it is likely that he could face criminal charges. Additionally, it is very likely that the owner would be subject to a personal injury lawsuit by the dog attack victim. Depending on the circumstances, the victim could potentially sue to recover damages that include compensation for medical bills, rehabilitation and recovery expenses, lost wages if she has to miss time from work during her recovery, and pain and suffering.
