Authorities are investigating a frightening car accident that occurred on a roadway in Winslow Township NJ and that resulted in the gruesome death of the driver.
The fatal car accident occurred at the intersection of Sicklerville Road and Chews Landing. Winslow Township police received a call about a vehicle, a dark-colored Honda Accord, traveling at an extremely high rate of speed and swerving dangerously on Cross Keys, near Chews Landing Road, around 4:00 a.m. By the time Winslow NJ patrol officers arrived in the area, the driver had already crashed.
The driver of the vehicle reportedly lost control of the car, smashing into a utility pole located just off the roadway and flipping several times before finally coming to rest on a large patch of grass.
During the accident, part of the hood separated from the body of the car and the roof of the vehicle was completely smashed in.
Neighbors later spoke with police and reported hearing the sounds of tires screeching and loud “booms” as the car flipped off the roadway.
The driver of the vehicle was killed instantly in the crash. The force of the car striking the pavement and flipping caused the driver to be ejected from the vehicle. It is believed that the victim’s body may have been decapitated during the car accident, although authorities have not yet confirmed this gruesome detail.
Winslow Township police worked for hours to investigate the car accident and determine exactly what might have caused the fatal crash. Authorities eventually removed the body of the man who died in the car accident.
Investigators with the Winslow Township Police Department are still investigating the accident and trying to determine whether the driver was speeding and driving recklessly when he suddenly lost control of the motor vehicle. At this time, it has not been revealed if the driver was intoxicated at the time of the crash.
Depending on the circumstances of the accident, it is possible that the victim’s family could potentially file a wrongful death lawsuit. It may seem unlikely based on the information made available thus far, but if it is determined that the accident was caused by a defective auto part or another negligent driver on the roadway, the family members of the victim may be able to seek compensation for their loss.
Regardless of the legal implications of the tragic accident, the incident is a good reminder that motorists should remain alert and aware at all time while traveling on roadways in New Jersey.
