A driver allegedly fleeing from police in a high-speed pursuit collided with another vehicle on a Hamilton Township roadway. The violent collision between the cars resulted in the death of one person.

According to law enforcement, the suspect was caught conducting a drug deal in Trenton, NJ. New Jersey State Police troopers reportedly observed the suspect and another person engaged in an illegal drug transaction on the side of the road. As soon as the suspect started his engine and began to drive off, the police officers attempted to pull over his SUV. However, instead of stopping his car, the suspect allegedly sped up and tried to evade capture by driving at an extremely high rate of speed.

The NJ State troopers gave pursuit and followed the suspect through Trenton. The high-speed pursuit eventually reached Hamilton Township, with the chase ending as the suspect reportedly ran a red light and crashed his motor vehicle into another car on the roadway.

The driver of the other car sustained catastrophic injuries in the auto accident. She was rushed to a local hospital, but doctors could not save her life. The victim was pronounced dead at the medical facility.

The victim resided in Trenton NJ and was just 22 years old at the time of her death.

The suspect, a 22-year-old man from Jackson, New Jersey, received medical treatment for his injuries at the scene of the crash and later at a local hospital. According to officials, he did not suffer any significant injuries as a result of the motor vehicle accident.

Upon being released from the hospital, the suspect was taken into the custody of Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office detectives and charged with numerous crimes, including vehicular manslaughter and death by auto while under the influence of drugs. Additionally, the suspect was issued several traffic citations for his alleged dangerous actions on the roadway, as well as for reportedly operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license.

In addition to facing serious consequences that could include prison time if the suspect is convicted on the criminal charges, the suspect may also find himself subject to civil liability in the form of a wrongful death lawsuit. That’s because the family members of the victim in the fatal car accident could potentially seek to hold the suspect accountable for reckless or negligent actions that led up to the collision.
